JUNE 13th - ANNUAL MEETING
Annual Meeting
June 13 (Thursday) + Panel + Refreshments!
This is our local League's annual meeting where members elect candidates to our Board of Directors, approve the upcoming budget, vote on bylaw changes, and review local League positions and programs. We need a quorum to conduct business. Your attendance matters!
The short business meeting is followed by presentations from our guest panel:
Dianna Moorman, the James City County Director of Elections and General Registrar; Lauren Zuravnsky from Hampton Roads Sanitation District will talk about the Sustainable Water Initiative for Tomorrow (SWIFT) Research Center; and Chad Stewart from the Virginia Education Association with a focus on state budget and K-12 research.

OUR 2024 SCHOLARSHIPS

Congratulations Hannah, Maesyn and Emily.
On Sunday (June 2) LWV of Williamsburg Area board members participated in the Williamsburg Community Foundation Scholarship Awards Ceremony held at Lafayette High School.
League members Laura Tripp and Denise Koch presented $1,500 Scholarships to three WJCC public high school graduating seniors: Hannah Neff (Warhill) who will study Criminology at the University of New Mexico; Maesyn Albert (Jamestown) who will study International Public Policy at Virginia Tech; and Emily Reynolds (Lafayette) who plans to major in Government at William & Mary.
And we received some thank you notes from our winning seniors!

Juneteenth Freedom Fest - June 15, 1-5 p.m.
Freedom Park - 5537 Centerville Road
Join the NAACP and James City County at America’s First Free Black Settlement in honor of Juneteenth! Enjoy live music, readings and performances as well as a presentation on the history of the Juneteenth holiday. Delicious food from local vendors.

Juneteenth Freedom Celebration - June 19, 1-9 p.m.
Williamsburg Community Bldg,401 N. Boundary Street
Features live music and entertainment, free food and food vendors, children’s entertainment, a Freedom Marketplace, a Black Authors Circle, and so much more.

Pride Month
Our hard working DEI committee reminds you June is Pride Month! And DEI is:
  • At our Voter Services table on Juneteenth at Freedom Park (June 15)
  • Collaborating with Voter Services and the YJCW NAACP at a Community Baby Shower at Old Towne Medical (July 17)
  • Planning a voter registration table with REV UP Virginia and our Voter Services group at Hampton University during Disability Voting Rights Week (September 9-13)
  • Investigating a Young Voters Engagement event in Fall 2024

RALLY JUNE 23 FOR WOMEN'S RIGHTS
Pro-choice march
On Sunday, June 23, at 4:00 pm, the Williamsburg JCC Indivisible will host a Rally for Women’s Rights to mark the second anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court’s Dodds decision which overturned Roe v Wade, thus ending the constitutional right to abortion. Come and show support for women and reproductive healthcare. Bring your own sign or borrow one from Indivisible.
