If you are paying by check, download and complete our membership form, then mail it with your check

1. Open and print the Mail-In Membership Form (PDF).
2. Fill it out completely, including how your check should be made payable (exact wording is shown on the form).
3. Enclose the completed form and your check in an envelope.

📌 Membership Details

Dues

• Recommended dues: $75 for 12 months; if that’s a stretch, you may join at $20 or more.
• Life Members (50+ years of service) do not pay dues.
• Adding someone in your household? They’ll need a unique email address and pay dues separately.

Receipts & What You’re Joining

• Your membership includes LWV Williamsburg Area, LWV Virginia, and LWVUS (national).
• After payment you’ll receive an online confirmation and email receipt.
• Expect to see three transactions on your statement (local, state, and national shares).

Who Can Join & Communications

• Membership is open to anyone aged 16+ who supports our mission.
• You’ll receive our local monthly eVOTER, the state’s Virginia Voter, and event alerts.

💳 Why You May See Three Charges

One Membership, Three League Levels

• Your dues payment is split immediately across three separate League organizations: LWV Williamsburg Area (local), LWV Virginia (state), and LWVUS (national).
• Because these are three distinct organizations, the payment is recorded as three separate transactions on your League statement and credit card statements.
• This is normal and does not mean you were charged three times for the same membership.

How the Dues Are Currently Allocated (Percentages)

• Local League (LWV Williamsburg Area): ~20%
• State League (LWV Virginia): ~47%
• National League (LWVUS): ~33%

Processing Fees (Credit Card vs. ACH)

• Credit card payments include a small processing fee, and because dues are split into three transactions, a fee applies to each portion.
• ACH (bank transfer) avoids or lowers the processing fee and keeps more of your dues supporting League work.

Tax note: Membership dues at all three levels are paid to three currently 501(c)(4) League organizations. Membership dues and general donations are typically not tax-deductible.
