Virginia has scheduled a dual primary election on Tuesday, August 4, 2026.
- Primary elections choose party nominees for the November general election, including candidates for U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate.
- Voters in Virginia’s 1st Congressional District who choose to vote in the Democratic primary will have a contest for U.S. House of Representatives, with seven candidates seeking the Democratic nomination.
- Voters who choose to vote in the Republican primary will have a contest for U.S. Senate, with three candidates seeking the Republican nomination.
- The races on your ballot depend on where you live and which party primary ballot you choose.
- Election Day polls are open from 6 AM to 7 PM.
Anyone in line at 7 PM will be allowed to vote.
